Abdullah, 11, wearing his team’s football jersey, smiles as he displays the trophy he won at the ‘Safe Children Centre’, a UNICEF-supported residence for vulnerable children in the southern port city of Aden, Yeman. Most of the boys who live at the centre formerly lived or worked on the streets, having migrated to the city from the countryside to seek work or escape violence at home. UNICEF helped open and finance the centre, which houses 40 boys, and has provided all supplies, including learning materials, furniture, toys and games.
